Dr. Marvel McCain Parker, A Graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, she holds a Bachelors of Arts with majors in Nonprofit Administration and Social and Community Studies. She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership at Lewis University. She is a Graduate of Harvard University Divinity School Summer Leadership Institute (SLI), an intensive Community and Economic Development Leadership Program. A graduate of Grace Theological Seminary She holds a Masters of Divinity degree and a Doctorate of Divinity degree.
Public Administrator for the Village of Summit, Illinois, she holds the positions of Director of Community Development, Enterprise Zone Administrator, and Chairman of the Summit Youth Commission, and Weed and Seed Program Administrator.
Dr. Parker is Executive Director of the Summit Community Task Force, a 501C(3) community and faith-based initiative. She is also President of Vel’s Travel Agency, a full service travel agency she established in 1984. In 2006 she established AIDS Awareness Advocacy Inc., a not for profit organization which focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness advocacy and prevention education and serves as CEO and Executive Director, and is a self-published author of "Breaking the Silence".
She is a member of the Moraine Valley Community College Area Planning Council, which focuses on adult and family education. She has received numerous awards for her commitment to education and advocacy for the poor. She has been honored with awards which including Citizen of the Year; from the Summit Chamber of Commerce, Woman of Distinction; from the Whispering Oaks Girl Scouts, Outstanding Service To The Community; from Northeastern Illinois University, Community Service Award; from Cook County Housing Authority.
A third generation member of the Church of God In Christ, and an active member of Argo Temple Church of God In Christ, since 1968, where her husband, Elder Wheeler Parker Jr. has served as Pastor since 1993. She has served in many positions in the ministry: business administrator, choir director, soloist, Sunday School Teacher Youth Mentor, Chairman of the Women’s Department, and she is a licensed Evangelist. Dr. Parker supports a ministry in Belize Central America, at the Calvary Temple Church and School, which has over 300 students.
